The My Wish program put on by Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw is reaching out to try and make dreams come true for those in end-of-life care.

The Heartland Hospice’s supportive care committee has partnered with a number of organizations from around the city to offer services to help enhance one’s end-of-life experience.

Some of the services include but aren’t limited to, family portraits, muscle car parades, living celebrations of life, or small parties. All activities adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions.

“We approached different local community organizations and businesses and asked them if they would be willing to be a part of this with our goal being that if we received a request within about 48 hours, we would be able to fulfill that request,” said Della Ferguson, chair of the supportive care committee.

Ferguson said sometimes it is the small things that can bring a smile to someone's face as they enter their final chapter.

“I think there's a new perspective when we enter that final phase of life, we see what really matters, and it's some of the simplest pleasures that bring us the greatest joy,” she said.

The My Wish program has also partnered with the Moose Jaw and District EMS to transport My Wish recipients anywhere in Saskatchewan in order to fulfill that dream.

A referral for the program can be by emailing supportivecare@heartlandhospicemj.ca. Heartland Hospice will then contact the health care providers to make arrangements. Anyone can make a referral on behalf of a patient in palliative care within the Moose Jaw area.

More information about the My Wish program can be found on the Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw’s website. The website includes a brochure that can be downloaded with information about My Wish and all of the services that it offers.
