That was quite the storm that rolled in around 3 o'clock Wednesday morning but depending on who you talk to and where they live, their story might be a little different. The north and east sides of the city appear to have been hit the worst while there are reports of just high winds and rain from South Hill and the west side.

The storm started around 3 am with high winds, then thunder and lightning, followed by heavy rain and a tremendous amount of hail. There were piles of hail around the city that looked more like snow banks shortly after the storm and localized flooding was also reported as the hail plugged storm drains and culverts, creating small lakes on some streets and parking lots.

You'll definitely want to check your property and vehicle for damage as the storm was very intense for a short time. If it wasn't the hail, it could have been the wind that did some damage. Power was out in a number of areas and we know of at least one power pole that was partially toppled in the wind.

We're not done yet as the new forecast has several mentions of rain before the end of the week, including a risk of severe thunderstorm activity Wednesday evening.
