It was just last week that Habitat for Humanity was celebrating the start of their latest build in Moose Jaw.

They have every piece in place except for one thing - helping hands.

"We just completed the sod-turning ceremony on April 11th for our 9th home that we just got underway. Fern Paulhus, our Construction Manager is looking for volunteers," detailed Bill Harris, chair of the Moose Jaw chapter. "The foundation is in, I think the floor joists and the floor will be next, and then framing the walls and away we go."

Harris said that anyone interested in helping out doesn't need to be there every day until the house is complete. They offer flexible schedules for people who only have a day here and there to offer.

"We can use more volunteers on the build site; that's one of our key needs right now. What's been very popular is a 'build for a day.' Up to 5 individuals from an organization, service clubs or different businesses, we'll bring lunch in and Fern will provide the hard hats and steel-toed boots if they don't have their own."

They will also be hosting a fundraiser next week called Taste of Saskatchewan, which is exactly how it sounds according to one of the organizers.

"We've partnered with Minhas Brewery and Distillery from Regina, so we're going to have some of their products including spirits, wine and beer that can be tasted. We're also going to have a roast beef supper that's catered by Charlotte's Catering as well," explained Dayna Chamberlain with the local chapter.

A Taste of Saskatchewan will take place next Wednesday at the Sportsmen Centre. Tickets are available on the Habitat website.
