A Gravelbourg man was charged with manslaughter Wednesday afternoon in the Court of Queen's Bench in Moose Jaw.

75-year-old Robert Arams pleaded guilty to manslaughter to the July 2018 death of Claude Landry.

Arams was initially charged with first-degree murder and committing indignity to a body.

He entered a guilty plea for manslaughter with the use of a firearm and committing an indignity to human remains. He was given a six-year prison sentence for the manslaughter charge after a joint submission by the Crown and the defence.

His sentence for the indignity charge is still to be determined.

On July 12, 2018, Arams shot Laundry in the stomach after an altercation on Arams's farm, where Landry would later succumb to his injuries. After Landry was shot, his body was then dragged behind an ATV and hidden in tall grass near a dugout on Arams's property. Following that, it was moved two more times, causing the indignity charge.

Later the same date, Landry's daughter had posted that he was missing. RCMP had called his disappearance suspicious and, after receiving some tips from locals, arrested Arams later that month.

Two others were also convicted in relation to the death of Landry. David Earl Prentice and Shauna Prentice were charged. David was given an 18-month conditional sentence earlier this year in April, and Shauna pleaded guilty to public mischief and was given a three-month sentence in the community for lying to police.

Landry was a father of five from Quebec, living in the village of Kincaid, with his partner and daughter.

Arams will be back in court on December 13 at 2:00 pm at Moose Jaw Court of Queen's Bench for the sentence on the indignity charge.
