The Government of Saskatchewan announced it give financial help to essential workers helping vulnerable citizens during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The wage supplement will give a $400 per month benefit for up to 16 weeks retroactive from March 15 for eligible workers.

To be eligible for the benefit you must be making less than $2,500 per month and are employed at a senior care facility, licensed childcare facility, group homes, or emergency shelters and transition shelters.

“Workers at these facilities have been helping many of Saskatchewan’s most vulnerable citizens get through the COVID-19 emergency,” Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said in a press release. “This new wage supplement reflects how greatly we appreciate their ongoing efforts and dedication under challenging circumstances.”

Workers such as caregivers, cooks and cleaners, both full-time and part-time are eligible.

The government says the application process will be released in the upcoming days.
