The Moose Jaw Fire Department received a donation to the tune of $25,000 from Gibson Energy earlier this week.

Gibson Energy has donated to a number of organizations throughout the city and has helped our local fire department with props when it comes to training, as well as sending firefighters away to learn how to fight refinery fires.

Fire Chief Rod Montgomery;

"Gibson Refinery makes many donations in the city, and this is just one of many. They've supported our department for a long long time in regards to sending people away down into different locations in the states, learning how to fight a refinery fire."

"The money will be used strictly for training. There are some really strong training facilities that we will send our members to. At some point when the course becomes available we'll send some of our members to continually try and upgrade our member's skills as best we can."

The donation comes amidst contract negotiation at the fire department after the City of Moose Jaw was been found guilty of unfair labour practice by failing to negotiate in good faith with the Moose Jaw Fire Fighters Association. The dispute revolved around the creation and eventual elimination of the fire department’s assistant chief positions.
