Gas Prices in Moose Jaw are stil under 1.20 a litre for regular fuel, but that's far from what the rest of the country is paying.

October 12, 2014, was the last time the average gas price in the city was $1.22 a litre or higher, much cheaper than the current national average of $1.341 a litre.

A few international factors are driving up gas prices in Canada according to senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com Dan McTeague.

"If demand continues to rise as it is globally, as well as the cut back [in oil production] from Iran, these are two factors that I think will continue to push oil prices up and there for keep gasoline at where it is at now," he said.

McTeague believes other factors behind the gas price climb is a weaker Canadian dollar hurting the countries purchasing power and the struggle within Canada to approve pipelines to be able to move more oil.

It's not all bad news in terms of gas prices the former Liberal MP noted some of the refineries in Edmonton are starting to produce more.

"I'm still waiting for a slight correction and that correction will come in the form of two Edmonton refineries that are currently out on extended maintenance coming back online," he said.

Once both refineries are producing again it should drop prices by about 3 cents a litre.
