For some, munchies and gaming seem to go hand in hand, and so it's a natural fit between the Moose Jaw Gaming Association and the Moose Jaw and District food bank.

Kristian Sjoberg with the assocation said they were told of the program by the local food bank.

“They happened to be starting this new program this year called Mighty Munchies, which is basically providing as well as regular food bank stuff, people who have students at the food bank, they provide them with snacks for the school,” Sjoberg said.

The bags are for the mid-day snacks for students, Sjoberg said. They are challenging corporations and organizations to also sponsor bags.

“We have to wait until the end of the year when we have our total donation from our two gaming expos. We have a gaming expo (MJGAX) July 12 to 14 at the Mae Wilson (Theatre). And then we do a second one, usually in February sometime,” he said. “And then after February, whatever we have in the bank account basically goes to the charity we chose for the year.”

The gamers are raising funds through two major gaming expositions they do annually, Other than the next MJGAX which is scheduled for July 12-14, there’s another activity scheduled.

“We’re doing a big cosplay event at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre during Sidewalk Days as well, that Saturday,” Sjoberg said. “That’s all part of trying to raise support, and get our event to be bigger and better. The bigger and better our event is, the more we raise for the charities we stand behind.”
