The Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is asking the federal government to speed up disaster assistance money.

Bobby Cameron said that if the provincial government is going to stall and make things harder for First Nations, then they should just get out of the picture.

He said money from the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) has yet to arrive from the 2015 wildfire season, including to the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation as well as the area around La Ronge.

Cameron, the leader of the organization representing 74 Saskatchewan First Nations, was speaking earlier this week at the First Nations Emergency Management Forum.

With the amount of First Nations in areas prone to flooding and fires, disaster response will need to be better in the future, he said.

The Provincial Ministry of Government Relations said in a statement there are no outstanding claims from PDAP from the 2015 fire season and no record of any band applying under the program. The Ministry indicated fire damage would generally not qualify under the program.
