Mayor Fraser Tolmie signed a proclamation last week officially declaring May 12 as Spring It Forward Day - A day where citizens are encouraged to get out between 10 am-12 pm and pick up the garbage that has accumulated over the long winter months.

Mayor Frasier Tolmie says he hopes to see everyone get involved.

"Whether you are a business owner, a business, or you're part of a community group; let's get out, let's clean up our city. People who are in this community have been going out as groups and individuals to clean up. I want to take pride in our community; I'm fully endorsing this."

Residents, families, community groups are encouraged to join the Parks and Rec Dept from 10:00 am to Noon. The City will supply gloves and the needed equipment for all residents to get out into the streets and parks and do their part in cleaning our city.

The City will also be offering a little financial help by waiving the $10 entry fee for light vehicles at the landfill.

The program starts May 1st and runs through to the 12th of May.

City officials say that during this two-week period, private citizens may dispose of items such as yard and household waste for free, but we're being reminded that all loads to the dump must be secured and tarped to keep streets and ditches free of debris.
