Looking to fill big shoes at the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank, Jason Moore has taken over as the new program development manager.

Moore brings a plethora of experience to the role, including working the last 15 years for a non-profit organization in Saskatoon and North Battleford, helping those dealing with homelessness, mental health, addiction, as well as spending time working with their local food bank as a partner.

Moore says there are some big undertakings that need to be dealt with here in Moose Jaw.

"We're looking at a new facility. Our location right now is very tight and packed. We can't have clients coming into the building so we're handing out food hampers outside, but we are looking at a new larger location to make things smoother and easier for the clients we serve, as well as the staff and volunteers that work here."

Due to COVID-19, the Food Bank has also had to restructure how hampers are handed out, as well as how operations are run.

Moore goes on to say Deanne Little, who he will be replacing, set up a lot of programs that he will now be in charge of managing. He said he hopes to add a few as well.

"The 'Kids Pack' or 'After the Bell' programs provide meals for children or youth that are in need throughout the summer since they aren't receiving lunches that are typically provided for them at school. There are other programs that we would like to develop too that's related to senior citizens in our community that might need a little assistance."

The Food Bank has also recently returned to somewhat regular hours as well, now open five days a week instead of three.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays they will be open from 9 am -2 pm for food hampers, and Wednesdays they are open 9 am - 2 pm for other business.
