The Moose Jaw & District Food Bank is keeping busy this September, especially with the start of school.

Deann Little, Assistant Manager for the Moose Jaw Food Bank, says the food bank is in need of school lunch foods such as peanut free snacks, fruit cups, granola bars, and crackers.

"At our local food bank here, almost 50% of the people we help on a monthly basis are children in households. So that would be anywhere from 18 years of age and under. So we have a very high rate of children who are accessing our food bank here."

The Food Bank is currently also looking for donations towards the purchase of a major appliance that is used in their facility.

"Our whole walk-in fridge, the whole condensing unit, all the parts related to that, it's lasted us 30 years but it all has to be replaced. We're having to look at a roughly $8000 expense for that, so we're going to try and raise some funds to help cover that expense for us".

If you would like to donate money toward a new fridge, they accept cash, cheque, or you can visit CanadaHelps.org

"It's working right now" says Little, "They've kind of done a temporary fix for us to keep it working because when we do purchase eggs we get 300 dozen at a time and so we do hand out about 360 hampers a month and each of those hampers gets a dozen eggs, so we couldn't keep eggs if we didn't have that walk-in fridge."

Some other items they are short on include Baby formula and diapers.
