The first week of hearings for the Senate’s standing committee on energy, the environment and natural resources across Western Canada on Bill C-69 has been completed.

The bill offers regulatory reform on the previous environmental impact laws with a broader scope for review on major projects. Saskatoon was the site of one of the hearings.

Critics of the bill in its current form say it will severely hamper economic activity on pipelines. Senators have heard from Indigenous organization, business groups and unions.

The committee will have hearings in Atlantic Canada and Quebec April 23.
