Details are light at this point, but first responders were called to a grass fire Wednesday afternoon.

Moose Jaw Police and the Fire Department were on scene of a grass fire in the north east corner of the city near Happy Valley Park and 9th Avenue.

Fire Chief Rod Montgomery said they've been able to put the fire out and contain it.

"We're going to have some spots here for a little while, but there's no concern for anybody," said Chief Montgomery while attending the scene of the blaze. "There's no properties at risk, it was some pasture land."

With a quick response from police blocking streets and fire crews battling the fire, Chief Montgomery said it was out shortly after, and they're still unsure of what the cause is at this point.

"It's undetermined at this time... what I know is that it was on top of the hill and it spread rather quickly and thankfully the ninth avenue east street was our buffer which saved it from going any further."

Some local residents spotted the fire and called the Fire Department directly shortly after 2pm Wednesday afternoon.
