Operations at the Thunder Creek Pork Plant have been suspended while an investigation continues into a fire that took place.

According to Michael Mensah-Wilson, head of quality and food safety with Thunder Creek Pork, the extent of the damage is unknown. He added that there is no timeline as to when operations will resume at the plant.

Emergency crews were at the scene of a fire at the Thunder Creek Pork Plant on Lillooet Street on Monday.

The fire department remained on the scene from around noon to 5:30 pm.

Fire Chief, Rod Montgomery, says the fire is still under investigation. "Our investigator is on scene today to determine the cause." Montgomery also says the fire originated in one of the processing rooms.  "It started and then got up on the roofline fairly quick, and burnt through the roof," says Montgomery.

He says the fire crews contained the blaze to that area. The fire crew also used an aerial ladder to contain the fire from above.

According to Thunder Creek Pork, no employees or livestock were injured in the fire. In a press release, they said the company's priority at this time is the safety of its employees, support personnel and livestock.
