The 39th annual Saskatchewan Drama Association (SDA) Region 2 One Act Drama Festival that was held here in Moose Jaw from March 15th to the 17th gave students a chance to show off their skills in a drama production, whether they prefer to be on the stage or behind the curtain.

Yearly, the festival gives drama students a chance to be commended on their performances or given tips on how to grow as a performer or a crew member.

Cornerstone's (L-R) Meagan Barclay, Max MacNaughton, Izaak Schultz-Falk, Bethany Bryden, Tearsa-Joy Kozack, Oliva Ellard, and Ben Lewis rehearsing their play, “The Misadventures of Romeo and Juliet”

Vanier Collegiate, AE Peacock, Central Collegiate, Riverview Collegiate, Lindale School and Cornerstone Christian School all had their own shows enter into the festival.

The shows included:

If The Shoe Fits, Buy it!, a comedy presented by Vanier Collegiate

Employees Must Wash Hands... Before Murder, a comedy presented by Vanier Collegiate

Goodbye to the Clown, a comedy presented by AE Peacock

The 9 Worst Breakups of All Time, a comedy presented by AE Peacock

The Misadventures of Romeo and Juliet, a comedy presented by Cornerstone Christian School

Hard Candy, a comedy presented by Central Collegiate

Damage, a drama presented by Riverview Collegiate

Jolt, a comedy by Lindale School

"It is a process, our festival was a little earlier this year," said Tanya Johnson, Vice Principal at Cornerstone and their production's director. "Most plays started in January some maybe earlier than that. So, it is quite a process and its a little different than just putting on a performance because every aspect ends up getting judged and it kind of contributes to different and as well that goal of becoming 'Best Overall Production'."

Along with the performances, adjudicators test students on every aspect that is involved in putting on a show, including lighting, set change, and the acting to name a few.

Cornerstone and Peacock had great success at the show, taking away the majority of the major awards, but, plenty of students received SDA medals and certificates of merit for their acting and technical performance contributions.

Now, Peacock's production, Goodbye to the Clown, will be continuing to represent Region 2 at the Provincial Drama Festival in May.

Above is the results of the major awards handed out from the festival.
