It's unusual to see a large family of ducks in the entryway to a business in Moose Jaw, but that was the situation facing Primary Eye Care earlier this week.

Dana Haukaas of the Moose Jaw Humane Society described what happened when they got there.

“We grabbed a kennel, and we don’t always go out to wildlife calls, but because it is such a busy traffic area, we didn’t want anything bad to happen to them before the wildlife people could get there,” Haukaas said. “So we went out with a carrier, and when we got there, there were some people from the eye care centre who showed us where she was hiding. And one lady from the eye care centre actually helped us.”

With some help, Haukaas was able to herd in some baby ducks into a cat carrier and then take it to Crescent Park. She said the ducks managed to get safely taken to Crescent Park and were able to integrate into the park.

Haukaas explains what people can do:

“What we recommend is that people call the wildlife hotline. That number is 306-242-7177. You will have to leave a voicemail, but one of their local volunteers will get in touch with you fairly quickly.”
