It's been almost a week since a devastating fire took place just minutes outside of Moose Jaw.

The Moose Jaw Police and Firefighters received the call early Saturday morning for a house fire on the 2600 block of River, that was later deemed accidental.

Owner of the home, Doyle McMorris, said when the blaze began he ran to grab their garden hose, but quickly dropped it realizing that it was too late and he needed to get everyone to safety until emergency personnel could arrive.

"To look outside and see the three boys who were at my house, my two and my buddy's boy, standing there. My wife and then watch my dogs come out and have anything that means everything to me standing there, it was pretty huge," said McMorris.

He said he'll definitely miss the house, but couldn't be more thankful to the first responders who came to their rescue that night.

"We loved, absolutely loved the place, it was our dream and we were proud of what we had. The police and the firefighters were out of this world as well. When they got there we had the kids, my wife, me and my friend out. It was burning pretty bad and they went in and saved my two dogs, I just owe them a huge thanks as well."

He added that through this heartbreaking time his employer and those closest to the family have gone above and beyond to help.

"Work has been unreal... they've been absolutely amazing with that, I didn't have to work (after). The biggest thing that has hit me is that friends and family have been unreal, it's actually overwhelming. This community is amazing."

McMorris and his family are staying with his sister as they get their insurance claim figured out. Friends and family of the McMorris' are also planning to have a fundraiser in the future.
