Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.

"A period of very cold wind chills is expected. An arctic high-pressure ridge has settled in over Saskatchewan. Temperatures under this ridge are very cold, with overnight temperatures expected to dip to around the -40 mark in some areas. Even with winds of 5 or 10 km/h, extreme wind chill values of -40 to -50 will occur. Wind chill values will moderate late Thursday morning but are expected to return to much of the province Thursday night and Friday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Keep emergency supplies in your vehicles such as extra blankets and jumper cables. If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside. Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to SKstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #SKStorm."
