Evraz has been fined $100,000 for a workplace injury in 2017 under the Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

The Toronto-based company was fined $71,429 with a $28,571 surcharge after pleading guilty in Regina provincial court earlier this week.

In February 2017, a worker ruptured his quadriceps tendon stepping down into a pit at their Regina facility.

The steel company has also had three injuries in the span of a few weeks earlier this year. Under the Saskatchewan Employment Act, if a corporation is convicted of an offense causing serious injury or death, a judge may fine a corporation up to $1.5 million, which is the highest fine in Canada.

Anyone reporting an incident can call the Occupational Health and Safety Division at 1-800-567-7233.
