Imagine learning how to run a business by having your own! Vanier's Entrepreneurship 30 class offered that opportunity to students this past semester, finishing up their class this past Wednesday.

As part of running their business and final mark, students must put together a final business report, which details all aspects of their businesses, like finances, marketing and sales, and a production to name a few.

"Its basically a review of everything you've done in the company," said Annah McDonald, one of the classes students. "Everybody gets to kind of say what they did, talk about the main points and our strengths."

All three companies had to give a report. That included the Vanier Christmas Craft and Trade Show, Granalmonds, and McKaso Paintings, and, as part of the class, students not only had to present their report to their class, but also a panel of guests that were either part of the school board, entrepreneurs or business members in Moose Jaw.

"I think it really embodies what a meeting really is like in a work place," Jenna Meili, another Entrepreneurship 30 student, said. "It really gave us a sense how to run a meeting and really taught us those skills."

As part of the program, students learned about businesses, how to run them, and everything involved in that world and lifestyle. The class is also part of Junior Achievement, which is a non-profit organization that gave students the opportunity to have this class and run their business.

"I'd say, overall, the learning aspect was a great success," said Cauy Cobb, another student in the class. "I learned a crazy amount about communicating, everything from face to face, making sales, making a business call, communicating with my coworkers, just everything around there."

Not only do students get to divide the profits among themselves, but they also donate a significant portion of it to a charity of their choice. In total, the Trade Show donated $1400 to the Make a Wish Foundation and each student earned $338.55. Granalmonds donated $575 to the Jim Pattison Hospital, with students earning $123.24, and McKaso Paintings donated $313 to Camp Easter Seal.
