Tuesday night in Moose Jaw was a celebration of a milestone for a national group.

The Elks of Canada Club celebrated 106 years as an organization in the country, and 105 years in the city of Moose Jaw. They deal with a number of areas by providing help to communities, seniors and children where needed.

National President or Grand Exalted Ruler, Ron Potter, was at the event earlier this week. He detailed what the night entailed.

"It's their 105th anniversary, they've been in Moose Jaw for 105 years so it was a little bit of a celebration of that, and what they're doing, what they're spending money on, what they're doing as projects to raise money, a lot that kind of stuff."

Potter noted that there are age groups that they focus their efforts towards, however, the projects they do can be utilized by anyone in some cases.

"Whatever the cause in the community. A lot of places, a lot of communities you go to you're going to find an Elks ballpark, an Elks playground. We raise money and we actually go ahead and get our hands dirty and build the facility as well, it's all about helping children and seniors and the community they live in."

Like with most charitable organizations and volunteer groups Potter says they need more helping hands and want people to know how gratifying it is to help a community.

"The biggest thing that we're struggling with is membership. We like to try and explain to prospective members just what we do and how good it makes you feel at the end of the day when you've seen what your little bit of volunteer work can accomplish."
