A Moose Jaw student is getting more out of life thanks in part to the Moose Jaw Elks Lodge Number 7.

The Elks love helping kids in need and they did just that.

Josh Abanes is a Grade 4 student at St. Mary Elementary who suffers with hearing loss. It was bad enough to begin to affect his grades in school.

After getting word about his situation from the school Principal Justin Clewis, the Lodge donated 500 dollars so Josh could get much-needed hearing aids.

Elks Lodge Treasurer Roy Champion was able to give an update.

"The little guy got the hearing aids in July and had the whole summer to get use to them. (Now) he's in school and he's just doing wonderful," Champion said. "He's just a different child. He's doing really good in school, he's hearing everything that's going on and he's able to participate in what's going on a lot better."

Champion said the Elks are so happy for Josh and that there's nothing like the feeling of helping someone like this.

The donation was made possible with the Elks and Royal Purple National Fund for Children.
