An eighth presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan.

A person in their 50s was tested in Regina after travelling to Vancouver for a dental conference. The person is self-isolating at home.

Public health officials are following up with individuals who had close contact with this person.

You will be notified by public health if you were in close contact and further measures are needed.

About 880 tests have been ordered in the province, 191 from the north, 284 from the Saskatoon area and 405 from the south including Regina.

Two of the eight presumptive cases from Saskatoon have been confirmed. One of the presumptive cases is from the north, while the other five are from Regina.

Two of the Regina cases were a result of travel to the U.S., one was from a dental conference in Vancouver and a household contact related to that case. The latest case is from the same dental conference. Only one is in hospital for conditions unrelated to COVID-19.

"All the rest of the cases are actually doing well and we expect them to make a full recovery within a week or two," said Saskatchewan Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab.

"There is good evidence now that people who have a mild infection cleared the virus within 10 to 14 days."

Meanwhile, Alberta and Ontario have declared state of emergencies. Shahab says Saskatchewan is not at that point yet.

"I think a lot of things are moving in the right direction. If we needed provisions under the emergency act beyond what we have right now that is still to be considered," he said.

"Obviously, those are enacted when there are massive forest fires and other things. Right now, we don’t feel the need for that, but certainly that will be considered if required."
