Under a cloud of controversy, Moose Jaw City Manager Jim Puffalt is attempting to keep things floating along calmly at the Downtown Facility and Fieldhouse. Following the dismantling of the board Wednesday night, he's been named acting general manager while an investigating into "staff issues" is conducted by an independent third party.

Councillor Scott McMann called out the investigation on Wednesday before the axe was dropped on the board, saying it was a miscarriage of justice. McMann believes there's too much happening behind the scenes and people, including the board, are being left in the dark. McMann questioned the entire process including the dismantling of the board.

"The intent is to ensure that the investigation can be completed and that we can protect everybody's personal interests," said Puffalt. "Due diligence is absolutely key here and it's a personnel-related issue that we can't speak about publicly."

Puffalt says the third party investigation is at the middle point right now and while they are attempting to move things along as quickly as possible, they also have to make sure everything is done right.

"Something like this is, I'm pretty sure unprecedented and it's not something that you would ever do likely. We're trying to go as quick as we can and get this resolved as quickly as possible."

This is not the first time the DFFH has been under an interim General Manager. Former Parks and Recreation Director Ted Schaeffer held the position after Scott Clark quit in the summer of 2016. In the weeks that followed, the DFFH board was also terminated due to financial irregularities.
