SGI released its numbers for distracted driving tickets issued in the month of October.

1,290 tickets were issued for distracted driving, 1,148 of which were issued for cell phone use while driving. These numbers mark an all-time high for distracted driving in the province of Saskatchewan.

"I can't say they're surprised because we have seen some high numbers especially since the month of May we have not seen the number of distracted driving numbers fall below 900," said Media Relations Manager for SGI Tyler McMurchy. "But this is a new record."

McMurchy adds that it is easy to avoid a distracted driving ticket. Put your phone away, focus on the road and make sure to avoid distractions.

Ticket prices will also be increasing starting on February 1st. Tickets will start at $580 for the first offence plus four demerits with subsequent tickets increasing significantly. Repeated offences also will result in a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

For those who are still confused as to what constitutes distracted driving, SGI released a video to explain what will result in a ticket and what won't.
