The Palliser Regional Library System has received a grant for Digital Literacy for South Central Saskatchewan. The grant will be used for education in terms of Computers, Smartphones, Tablets, and the various common programs and social media platforms in today's society.

Jan Smith, the Palliser Director, explained why the program is necessary.

"It's perceived as a very large problem amongst Seniors, Newcomers, on how to use the digital equipment that is now becoming prevalent in the society."

The Regional Library looks forward to assisting many groups in Moose Jaw and the surrounding area, including seniors, people with disabilities, those who don't speak English as a first language, newcomers to Canada, and many others.

"We want to work with the Transition House, the Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre, Newcomers, Multicultural (Council), other agencies in addition to Moose Jaw Public Library, Seniors Centers, just so that we can get as many people as possible familiar with how to use the new digital equipment in the digital age," said Smith, who went on to speak about many ways they hope to assist, such as their program for online banking.

"The banks have got beautiful apps out there, and they are working with us so that we can actually, down the road, help teach people how to use the banking app, so that if you're in Wood Mountain, you can still do all the banking you would do as if you were at the bank."

The funding for the program of $191,000 will allow for the programs, scheduled to launch in August, to continue until March of 2021.

These courses will be free and open to all looking to learn.
