A potentially tragic situation was averted thanks to the staff at a water park in Battlefords Provincial Park on Thursday.

The park, operated by Saskatchewan Aquatic Adventures, features an inflatable water playground that is anchored about a five-minute swim from shore, in Jackfish Lake. Thursday afternoon, around 35 kids were playing on the structure, some as young as five years old, when the skies suddenly turned dark.

The manager, Ashley Greenwald, radioed to her lifeguards to evacuate the park.

The quick thinking and actions got all of the children back to shore, just moments before the playground was damaged by the storm.

No one was injured in the incident.
