On Sunday over 100 dancers hit the stage to support a local agency.

Dance Images by B.J. held their annual Dance for Hunger Showcase, which saw a packed house at Peacock Collegiate High School in Moose Jaw.

Dancers performed various styles such as jazz, ballet, lyrical, musical theatre, and acro.

"The support that we had was amazing between our dancers, our dance families, and community people who came out to watch and support. I talked to the coordinators at the food bank and we raised almost 1,500 pounds of food for them, which is amazing and we're so proud of that," explained Assistant Director at the studio, Shauna Bzdel. "The food bank said that every month they send out almost 400 hampers for families within our community, knowing that we've been a part in giving back and helping that is incredible."

For just short of 15 years, the food bank has been gifted with donations that the dance studio collects while hosting their show to kick off a busy performance season.

"We ended up receiving 1,466 pounds of food from them. This is fantastic to receive this amount of food this time of year. It's a very positive thing for us for keeping our shelves filled," said Deann Little Assistant Manager for the food bank. "Dance Images has also been working with us with this food drive for a number of years now. It's beneficial and something we've been able to count on year after year."

Despite the agency getting a sizable donation from the event, Little says there are a few things that they're still looking for to provide to residents in their hampers.

"Right now we're short on vegetable soup as well as chicken noodle soup, and we could also use boxed cereal as well."

If you would like to make a donation to the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank there are various donation bins at local grocery stores, or donations can be dropped off at their building at 305 Fairford Street West.
