Moose Jaw Pride Week is going to close off with a celebration in Crescent Park with a beer garden at the amphitheatre.

In asking for the permit from city council Monday, local Pride organizer Joe Wickenhauser said it will be similar to last year, although last year's event was in front of the Moose Jaw public library.

“We did do the beer garden last year, and I think it was well-received by the community,” said Wickenhauser. “We had no incidents and no reports of intoxication. We had at least one councilor present and I followed up with parks and rec staff after the event and followed up with that councilor. We just received positive feedback on how that was received.”

Council unanimously approved the wish from Pride for June 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. The week runs from May 26 to June 1.

In approving the special event beer garden, Moose Jaw Mayor Fraser Tolmie spoke about how thorough the event was.

“The Pride organization did clean up and did a great job last year and thanks very much for doing that,” Tolmie said. “Also, I want to say they’ve also dotted their Is and crossed their Ts by making sure everyone has gone for special training for alcohol use and that I heard good things last year. Thanks for being responsible.”

Pride hinted they had a grant for a major performer that day.
