It isn’t a part of the forecast many are looking forward to. Environment Canada is calling for snow in the Moose Jaw area this upcoming weekend.

“There’s a really strong low pressure that’s going to develop in Wyoming, and as that develops, it's really going to start dragging some cold air down from the north over most of the prairies,” explained Kyle Fougere, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada. “So, it’s going to be a pretty drastic change in the weather this week,”

The snow is expected to start sometime Saturday night and continue through into Sunday eventually giving way to rain as the temperature warms up. The system is fairly strong, expected to bring quite a bit of snowfall.

“If you have any travel plans for Sunday, Monday, even late Saturday, really pay attention to the weather and stay tuned for any watches or warnings that Environment Canada may put out,” added Fougere.

The snow isn’t expected to stick around very long, with temperatures back into the low teens expected next week. However, it is expected to be widespread in the region, bringing more headaches for agricultural producers who are working to get the crop off the field.
