The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan is reminding people about the advertising price laws in the province.

Vehicle dealers are required to have their advertised price include all that the dealer intends to collect from the sale, with the exception of the PST and the GST. The ‘drive away price’ and applies to the transactions where there isn’t a trade-in.

Things that need to be in the advertised price include freight, administrative and documentation fees and government levies. Consumers can’t be charged more than the dealer’s advertised price if the drive away price laws apply to the purchase.

If consumers notice a difference between the advertised price and the cash price, they should try to work with the dealership. If unsuccessful, they can file a formal complaint with the FCAA. Drive-away prices will not apply to private sales.

Potential buyers can check out the dealers’ licence number and validity on fcaa.gov.sk.ca/fcaa411

To contact the FCAA with a complaint about a dealer, consumers can call 1-877-880-5550 or reach them by email at consumerprotection@gov.sk.ca.
