With highway construction season well underway, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is trying to ensure all work zones are set up correctly. They are reminding motorists they can help by reporting any missing or inappropriate signage.

"It's important for the public that the signage is in place," said Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit. "It's also important for the workers, and let's make that very clear, because there are flaggers and workers out there so we want to make sure everybody is aware they're entering a work zone."

Marit added It's important that everybody is safe and protected whether they're driving through a work zone or working in it.

Prior to approaching a highway work zone, there will be an orange sign with a black image of a worker indicating workers are present. This sign will be followed by a 60 km/hr speed sign and possibly by a sign indicating photo enforced construction zone.

"When you see that photo radar there and the sign, people are going to be very cognisant of the fact camera's could be there and I think it's very important we have that," said Marit.

Motorists can plan their trip ahead of time by checking the Highway Hotline at www.saskatchewan.ca/highwayhotline.

"Whether it's just people who are on holidays or getting to and from work, I would just hope everyone respects the work zone speeds," Marit explained Monday morning. "The work zones could cause you a 5-10 minutes delay in you getting to your destination and I would hope that everybody would recognize that 5-10 minutes isn't the end of the world."
