Another side effect of the hot, dry weather we have been receiving is dust, especially on gravel roads.

Traffic on the gravel road on the 1200 block of Caribou Street East kicks up dust and those clouds are blowing into residents in the Double J Trailer Park.

Jered Sisetsky is a resident in the area, and he describes how bad the dust can get.

“You could sit there and watch a vehicle go down the street and the guys that are closest to the road, they're out there barbecuing and eating dust,” he said.

He said that he has reached out to the city to see what can be done about dust control, but he wasn’t satisfied with the answers he received.

“You have trucks and vehicles flying up there all day long and I asked the city about dust control and they refused it. They said if you want dust control, I'd have to pay for it out of my own pocket to like put dust control down on the city street,” Sisetsky said.

He said that the trailer park paid for dust control a couple of years ago, but it was his understanding that there were complaints about the road becoming rutted and the measures were taken out.

When asked about the situation, Mayor Fraser Tolmie said there are programs in place but he wasn’t sure how far along city administration is with reaching out to residents.

“There is a 50-50 cost for dust control in that area and so I have to circle back with administration and just see if they've reached out to those citizens and homeowners in that area just to see if that's been put on the table and where those discussions are,” Tolmie said.

In response, Sisetsky said it shouldn’t be up to the citizens to pay for dust control for city-owned streets.
