As part of their yearly funding to community organizations, Co-op Community Spaces awarded a significant grant to the East Side Community Association.

Members of the community association and a representative from Co-op held the cheque presentation on Thursday in the area where the spray park would go.

"We requested funding requests from all over Western Canada through the Co-op system and Jeny's organization had put in a grant application and it was amazing. It was exactly what we were looking for," explained Kathleen Kristoff, Member Relations Advisor for Moose Jaw Co-op. "It's something that benefits the community, it is on the East side of the community but it benefits everybody so it was exactly what we were looking for and it was perfect."

The paddle pool (pictured above) will be replaced with a brand new spray park.

In total, $120,000 in funding was awarded to the community association to replace the current paddle pool in the East End Park with a new spray park.

With construction hopefully beginning in August, the Playground Program that was at the park was moved to another location to make sure it wasn't hindered by any construction.

The funding from Co-op and some from the City of Moose Jaw has helped the East Side Community Association make the project a possibility.

"It's nice to see the City supporting this end of town because we are working in partnership with the City of Moose Jaw to fund this project. They will be project managing it for us so it's nice to see some attention on the East end to an area that doesn't often get it. It's nice for the community association to really make another mark on the East side."

With the paddle pool changing to a spray park, it will become more accessible. Spray parks don't require constant supervision and are available when anyone wants to use it.

This is one of the 8 total projects to receive Community Spaces funding in Saskatchewan.
