The number of people in need of support who are addicted to crystal meth is rising across the country. But what do we really know about it and how much do we know about it impacting our city?

Those questions are going to be answered by emergency services and local professionals Thursday morning during an event called Popup Coffee and Conversations hosted by a local committee.

"Three speakers will talk about meth and its effect on their respective business or organization and what we can do about, what people can do about it to avoid the consequence of the use of meth in the city," explained one of the organizers, Christine Boyczuk.

"We have someone from the Police, someone from EMS, and someone from mental health and addictions and they'll speak about things like the number of people (addicted), some data, and a little bit of information about the effects of meth and particularly upon the community."

Boyczuk said the team of committee members was given a grant to help spread information about meth use in their community and to share what information they can with residents in the city. If residents are unable to attend their next upcoming event Boyczuk said they will be hosting a second one next month as well.

"The group that is sponsoring this is Partners Against Violence and we're going to have an event on May the 29th and we will bringing in two speakers, one from the province and one from outside the province, to address the issue of victims against crime."

Thursday's event is open to the public. Coffee Popup and Conversations will be held at Riverview Collegiate at 8-9 a.m.
