Dry conditions and a stiff breeze proved to be a bad combination as a large grass fire burnt a significant amount of land on the north end of Buffalo Pound Lake.

Carrie Mullen was one of the residents, who along with first responders, battled the fire.  She told us how close the fire got to some of the homes in the area.

"It would be basically at their backyard property line" Mullen said.  "It's funny how it stopped because there is a pasture that runs behind with a fence, and they literally stopped it at the fence line".

Estimates say the fire came as close as 15 or 20 feet to some houses.

There is no word yet on how the fire started.  Volunteers and first responders continue to watch for hot spots.
