The Northwest Community Association’s spray park project has been given a municipal project status after it was presented to city council on Monday night.

The community association has started a fundraising campaign to raise $253,000 for the construction of the spray park with the hopes of having it open in 2023.

“According to a City of Moose Jaw demographic result, there are roughly about 557 kids aged zero to 14 within Caribou Heights all the way over to Lyndale school,” said Northwest Community Association vice-chair Craig McLeod.

“So, it's a very healthy number of kids that would be able to take advantage of this spray park in Regal Heights.”

Mayor Fraser Tolmie said he would throw his support behind the project.

“There is a large number of residents in that area that I know that you will get a lot of support from. I think that this is a great project,” commented Tolmie.

“I think this is certainly a great opportunity for our city to get behind something like this.”

As a municipal project, the city is responsible for sending out charitable donation receipts to anyone who has made a donation towards the park.

Once constructed, the city would then be responsible for water and maintenance costs.

The proposed park would be located in the Regal Heights neighbourhood between the outdoor rink next to the 7-11 on 13th Avenue Northwest and the baseball diamond.
