While many Moose Jaw residents welcome the warmer weather, it does mean the city has been forced to shut down local outdoor rinks due to the melting ice.

All outdoor skating rinks, including the Crokicurl rink on the Kinsmen Sportsplex grounds, are closed for the season.

“We thank all of the local residents and organizations that aided our outdoor rink efforts this winter,” said Scott Osmachenko, Recreation Services Manager in a statement from the city.

“Despite some inconsistent weather, we maintained 14 ice surfaces including outdoor rinks, pads, the Wakamow oval and crokicurl (at the new Kinsmen Sportsplex location), with hundreds of residents utilizing the facilities.”

For safety reasons, residents are asked to stay off all outdoor rink surfaces as they continue to melt.
