You may call it an alert or, perhaps, a warning.

Chief Rick Bourassa issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the Moose Jaw Police Service will be enforcing the new Public Health Order set out amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bourassa said his team will be checking local bars, nightclubs and lounges in the coming days to make sure they are closed.

“Right now we are informing, we’re educating, we are working with health authorities on it,” Bourassa said. “But we will be checking to ensure places that shouldn’t be in operation are not in operation.”

The order also includes gatherings of no more than 25 people in one room. Bourassa added he is “pretty confident” all establishments have complied with the order.

The statement also reminded residence that “people who have returned from international travel” are under a “mandatory self-isolation requirement.”

Bourassa said police will respond to any complaints of people who returned from travelling and have not self-isolated.

“We follow up on every one of those complaints that we receive. We work with the public health authorities on that as well and we follow through to make sure that everything is as it should be,” Bourassa said.

“We’ve had a number of those calls since the order came out last week and, yeah, we follow through on every one of them.”

The province sent out an alert last week saying that residents caught breaking the self-isolation order can be fined $2,000.
