The Moose Jaw Police Service say they are watching the COVID-19 situation very closely

They are keeping in contact with the Moose Jaw Public Health Office and some changes to service are being made. Services such as criminal record checks, inspection tickets and civilian fingerprinting have been suspended until further notice.

“We have been planning for this for quite some time,” said Moose Jaw Police Chief Rick Bourassa. “So this week, we’ve begun to implement our plans.”

The media release says that the “Police Service is requesting the cooperation of the public in reporting any symptoms of COVID -19 when using emergency services to assist our members in determining an appropriate response. Additional questions may be asked by officers or communication staff as we aim to ensure everyone’s health and safety.”

Bourassa explains how the changes could affect their operations.

“We still encourage people, call us anytime you think you need the police, that hasn’t changed,” said Bourassa. “What may change, depending on the situation, is our response. We’re fully committed to ensuring public safety throughout this situation.”

The release adds that the police “ask that you consider the best way we can serve you as we work hard to keep our staff safe so that we can keep the community safe.”
