Is it better to do the work yourself or to hire contractors? It's a debate that many homeowners will have at this time of the year as they look over all of the projects that need to be done and it's a debate that Moose Jaw City Council is expected to have next week following three notice of motions given by Councillor Chris Warren.

One of those motions could spur on a detailed report on creating a water and sewer division within the engineering department to aide in delivery of water and sewer main replacement and repairs, rather than hiring contractors. The motion that Warren wants debated would call for a full report on the cost benefits of doing the design work in-house as well as the underground work, buying all of the equipment needed as well as any benefits to using seasonal workers.

The other motions that he's given notice of, would direct the engineering department to conduct a full report on how snow and ice removal are handled in Moose Jaw as well as a full review and report on road repair and repaving.

If the other councillors see merit in the motions, they're expected to be debated next week.
