Several changes are being made to how the City of Moose Jaw is operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the closure of many city-run facilities, the city has more safety steps that they're taking. City council meetings will be in their normal meeting schedule, but they will be closed to the public.

While staffing issues will prevent Shaw Cable from broadcasting the meetings, they will be shown on the city's YouTube channel and posted to the city's website by 5 p.m. the following day.

The city landfill will remain open, but water main open house information sessions scheduled for tonight and March 26 are canceled. The city said they will find alternate ways of communicating with affected property and business owners about the water main replacement program.

City Manager, Jim Puffalt. "We certainly have plans in place. We're putting staff where necessary and with appropriate guidance and supervision, we'll be able to provide water, garbage collection and transit will carry on as long as it's required."

City transit will be adding some safety precautions to their buses, including most passengers being asked to enter and leave through the rear door.

“Alternate Fare boxes will be placed near the front of the buses, over the passenger side wheel wells, and will be monitored by the drivers. Additionally, individuals with walkers or other mobility aids will still be accommodated via the ramp at the front bus entrances. Buses will be fully sanitized daily, with regular “spot” sanitizing of high-touch surfaces every day,” a release from the city states.
