With the province announcing that indoor rinks and pools can reopen, the City of Moose Jaw is currently looking at its operations.

Generally speaking, the announcement will have little effect on the Kinsmen arena and the Pla-Mor Palace.

Most sports are now taking place outside and indoor sports such as ball hockey, inline hockey, and lacrosse have not requested to return to play as their season usually wraps up in mid-July.

"Our indoor rinks we typically put the ice in, depending on which rink, so the Kinsmen arena would go in in September and the Pla-Mor Palace those two ice surfaces would go in in October, so we'd probably continue with that schedule," said Director of Parks and Recreation Derek Blais.

As for the Kinsmen pool, Blais said it is going to take some time before it can reopen. Some of the preparation that is involved includes filling, heating, and treating the pool, developing new programming plans, hiring and retraining, and recertifying staff, facility modifications, and public health inspection.

Blais expecting an opening date will be announced in the coming weeks as they hope to reopen the indoor pool in August.

As for indoor sports, Blais said they are still looking at the guidelines to open up the turf at the Yara Centre.

"When it comes to opening indoor facilities such as the turf at the Yara Centre, we are working on the plan around that," Blais said.

"We typically aren't very busy in the summer because people are outside but it really ramps up again in the fall so we'll be looking to have the turf available again in the fall and building a plan around that."

Day camps will be starting up on Monday, but other community-based programs will remain postponed.
