The City of Moose Jaw is putting out a call to anyone who wants to sit on the Regina Airport Authority's board of directors

Moose Jaw city council unanimously passed a motion on Monday to seek nominees for the airport authority. Patricia Martynook, who currently represents Moose Jaw on the board, will have her term expire on April 12.

If Martynook is reappointed, she would be heading into her third and final three-year term on the board.

Councillor Brian Swanson says the Regina Airport Authority should be treated like any other third party board.

"I would liken it to Wakamow or the Board of Police Commissioners. I think it would be not a good precedent to simply reappoint someone at the request of the board."

"The Regina Airport Authority has the right to recommend the reappointment of a person, but I think we should stick with this being a three-year term that only comes up every three years, and I think we should do what we would normally do, and that's advertise for interested applicants and then choose from them."

Mayor Fraser Tolmie says he questions the process nominating someone from Moose Jaw.

"I have no problems with the candidate that's been recommended at all, in fact, I would vote in favour of them in a heartbeat. I think the question comes down to a process, if Regina is trying to build a bridge with us and they're coming to us for a recommendation, it doesn't seem to line up too well. So I just question the process."

The airport authority is governed by the City of Regina, meaning Moose Jaw has no legislative authority over the board.
