Joining the ranks of banks, Crown corporations and DiscoverMooseJaw.com, the City of Moose Jaw is looking to launch an app in the very near future.

City Manager Jim Puffalt says the idea came from city council as a way to improve customer service. They've done some looking around and they think they've found the one they like.

"People could give us a hand when they're out and about and see a pothole or some work that needs to be done in the city," explained Puffalt. "Could people find a way to get that to us right away, go to the right spot and then we could get automatic ways to get the information back to people?"

The Information Technology Department has been exploring several options that range in price, service provided and options for circulating information. Puffalt says a more thorough report will be presented to councillors as part of the budget process this fall.

"People could stop where they are, take a picture of it and send it to us along with a geographic location and then the system would give a response to the people saying that we got it and when the work is done, the system would give a response."

Puffalt says this is fairly forward-thinking technology for a city of Moose Jaw's size and not too many communities have something like this in western Canada.
