Mosaic Place housed the annual City's Long Service/Retirement Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, where city employees got together to honour their colleagues for the time they've spent in their respective roles.

Directors in various fields were invited to the front to present each award to employees in attendance.

Cliff Froelich, was apart of the Moose Jaw Police Service for over 30 years, he said the biggest change and challenge through his years was adapting to technology as crime developed.

"The type of crime that is out there that makes its way from the big cities, to the smaller cities, to the rural areas of our province continues to be a challenge," detailed Froelich. "There was a time that you didn't see the weapons, you didn't see the drugs, you didn't see the violence that you see today. Not that its rampant, but certainly that it is more widespread than i think it has been throughout my career."

He added that another part of being a police officer, especially for an extended period of time, was remembering to let your own light shine when you take off your uniform.

"Throughout my career I've learned that you need to take that armour off, and you need to be human. Sometimes during work, but especially after work... when you're with family and friends you need to peel back that armour and be a good neighbor."

Another member in attendance was Wray Hulgan, he retired after over 30 years of service, with most of it spent in the sewer and water engineering sector.

"Sewer and water, we had to get a lot more education in the last 15 years," said Hulgan. "I noticed that took a lot of work and a lot of time to keep up with your education."

Many smiles and laughs filled the room as colleagues congratulated retirees and expressed gratitude to those who passed career milestones.
