With Moose Jaw, along with the rest of southern Saskatchewan currently being walloped by our first major snowstorm of the year, the City of Moose Jaw crews are out working to keep the streets clear.

The city has implemented its Winter Maintenance Policy which outlines the following:

  • Priority 1 roads are cleared within 24 hours of a storm.
  • Priority 2 roads are cleared within 48 hours of a storm.
  • Priority 3 roads are cleared within 72 hours of a storm.
  • Priority 4 roads are cleared within 96 hours of a storm.
  • Priority 5 roads are cleared based on rutting and drainage.
  • Priority 6 are parking lots and will be cleared based on their conditions.

City manager Jim Puffalt said after a storm, there are measures that residents can do to help make the clearing of the streets go more smoothly.

“It's really important, when we have equipment out and running, that people stay home if they can. If there's no reason to go out, please stay home, and if you have your cars parked on the street and you have an opportunity to move it into your driveway, that would be excellent as well.”

The city is reminding motorists to drive with caution when winter conditions exist. They also recommend residents clear off your sidewalk as soon as possible after a snowfall.

As for the highways, they are in much worse condition than our city roads. You can click here to view the highway hotline, or click here to read more.
