Trees provide a lot for our community. Benefits like shade, cleaner air, and rather unknown things like improved mental health, increased property value, and creating a relaxing environment according to the people in charge of maintaining our parks and gardens.

Until this Friday, you can nominate a special timber in your life online at the City of Moose Jaw's website that you find is rather special or interesting.

The Tree of Significance contest will elect a tree in the community that has some importance to it.

The contest has ran since 2011, and has no sign of ending this year.

"It was designed to recognize trees that are special in some way," said Sarah Regent, Parks Gardener for the city. "They're either species that are rare for the area, or particularly big, have an unusual form or have a backstory or historical significance."

Trees nominated should be accessible to the public such as in the front or side yards, public or institutional spaces.

The winning tree will be announced on National Tree day on September 27th, where a bow or a sign will be unveiled to make sure residents recognize the tree.
