Following the announcement of the largest land deal in the history of Moose Jaw, the Chamber of Commerce are looking forward to the future.

Carpere Canada is buying the Southeast Industrial Park for $10,000 an acre, plus potential service charges on those lands for $49,600 per acre.

Rob Clark, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, said it brings a lot to the table for the city.
"We're thrilled and very much encouraged by it. it takes some strong from city council there to make something positive happen within the community. And we've taken another step forward. Everybody knows the number there's $46 Million for the land deal. And the investment dollars that can be injected over a number of years can be enormous. What it does is it brings a higher standard of pay. It actually sort of covers everything we need for economic development and growth in the city. It's absolutely huge. And then to have Spectre coming now. Now we're going to have an entertainment venue, and these guys are very well known in the industry."

On the opposite side of the coin, the news about Sask Power stopping the momentum of their plan to build a natural gas plant here in Moose Jaw is bad news for the city, though the chamber and it's members are staying positive.

"I actually heard about it out at the airshow, and it was like somebody punched me in the chest. Because I thought that's going to be fabulous for the city. I'm a bit of a believer, and I think most of us are. They haven't stopped it. They've put the brakes on. There's lots of things that can happen going forward. I know there's going to be lots of lobbying on the local level. I'm in a bit of a wait and see. I don't feel as good about it as I did last week, but I've still got this feeling that maybe something will come about it. We've made 4 or 5 steps forward and there's always going to be 1 or 2 steps back."
